Chinese knotting is a decorative handicraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) in China. The art is also referred to as Chinese traditional decorative knots. In other cultures, it is known as "Decorativeknots".

中國結是一種自唐宋時期開始興起的民俗藝術，也被稱為中國傳統繩結藝術。在其他國家，類似的工藝品稱為裝飾性繩結。

這里的Chinese knotting就是中國結，knot就是“打結”的那個“結”，也可以作為動詞，表示“打結”，如：knot the shoelaces，系鞋帶。

英語中，tie the knot這個說法，除了字面上的“打結”之意，還是固定俗語，表示“結婚”，這個說法是不是和中文里的“喜結良緣”感覺很神似呢?

名著Dream of the Red Chamber，紅樓夢里面就詳細寫到過很多種編織中國結的方法，大家還記得“黃金鶯巧結梅花絡”那一回吧，鶯兒(英譯名Oriole)打的那個“攢心梅花”結，在霍克斯版的英譯紅樓夢里，是被翻譯成flower-pattern with filled-in centres，中國結的花樣很多哦，大家多學點吧~
